National Caregivers Month was actually started around 1994. Usually during the week of Thanksgiving, the National Family Caregivers Association or NFCA would celebrate and give thanks to family caregivers all over the United States. In 1997, the celebration of caregivers was recognized by President Clinton, who was the first to sign a proclamation thanking caregivers for the important work that they perform. Each president since has also proclaimed their appreciation for the vital work that caregivers do.
Caregivers all over the United States and the world have different reasons for doing what they do. Some perform it as a career in special homes or hospitals. Others take care of family members, going unpaid and yet dedicating all of their time to caring for another. Their work is selfless and invaluable to those they care for and the families of those who need care. Some caregivers may wonder if their work goes unnoticed. It can sometimes be a thankless and difficult job, but it is a very important one.
November is national caregivers month
If you know of a caregiver in your area, take the time to thank them. November is a month in which we celebrate gratitude for all that we have. It is also the month in which we should show special thanks to those who care for our loved ones. Show appreciation to the caregivers you know today, and let them know that you remembered that November is National Caregivers Month.
